Better Chat Organization and Dating/Topic division

I’d love to see:

  • Search results that show the exact matching message + context, with a “Jump to message” button.
  • Automatic separation of long chats by date/session, with a visual outline and distinct accent colors.
  • A clickable conversation outline showing major topics, so users can jump directly to a topic.
  • A sidebar listing all files uploaded in the chat, with a short description and “Jump to upload/discussion”.
  • More flexible pins/bookmarks for important messages, topics and files.
  • Stronger, clearer section headings instead of faded titles.
  • Large pasted text collapsed into a “Clipboard — See more” block, similar to Cursor.
  • More response cards/blocks with one-click Copy actions.
  • The overall goal: make ChatGPT feel like a searchable, navigable knowledge workspace rather than an endless chronological chat.
  • Prettier subtle outlined-gradient light mode design with modern round outlines.
  • Prettier, subtle outlined-gradient design in light mode, with modern rounded outlines around all major UI windows and containers — similar to the outline around this chat and notification windows. The outlines should have a very soft, milky RGB/iridescent gradient effect, like subtle ambient light glowing along the edge of a glass or polished desk surface. Keep it extremely thin, soft and understated — not neon, not bright, and not overly colorful.

Adding another use case that I think fits this request: I would love a “Show in conversation” / “Open containing chat” option for files found through ChatGPT search.

I often remember a file name or a keyword from a file before I remember which conversation I was using it in. Finding the file itself is helpful, but frequently what I actually need is the surrounding conversation, because that contains the context: why I uploaded it, what I was trying to do, which parts we discussed, and what decisions or work came from it.

I’m thinking of something similar to “Open file location” in Windows/File Explorer:

Search for file → select result → “Show in conversation” → open the originating chat and jump directly to the message where the file was uploaded or used.

If the same file has been used in multiple conversations, it could instead show something like “Used in 3 conversations” and let the user choose which one to open.

More broadly, I would love for ChatGPT search results to link to the exact message/location where the result occurred, rather than only opening the containing conversation.

As ChatGPT becomes a long-term workspace with chats, Projects, and files, being able to move from an item back to its original context would make search and retrieval much more useful.
