Batch API Outage - /v1/responses cannot access valid purpose=batch input_file_id

@siddhant Hi siddhant, could you please apply the fix to us?

Org-ID: [org-id]

Sample-Batch: batch_6a95c77627648190b42ebb9cd5d126db

Thank you very much!

Thanks so much, it helped!

Hi @siddhant , My request in post 103 appears to have been skipped. Can you please help with [org-id] ?

Hi @siddhant – we have also been affected by this issue since 28 August. Could you please apply the fix to our org as well?

@siddhant I need our organization fixed asap as well, otherwise we’re just going to move to another provider or in-house it with an open weight option. What’s the best avenue to provide our org id. Better yet, you can just look at the org associated with my email and apply the mitigation? There is no option to create another project since we’re a “Consolidated Organization”…

@siddhant Our organization is still affected - requesting the batch file-validation mitigation.

  • org: `[org-id]`
  • Failing since 2026-08-28 03:30 UTC; 4,400+ failed batches across 5 models, all with the same error.
  • Fresh minimal repro today (2026-09-01 ~06:30 UTC): uploaded a 1-line JSONL (`file-G617zgW5Nd7sqyE7KZfbgk`, purpose=batch, status=processed, retrievable), then `batches.create` → failed 58s later:
`invalid_request: Cannot find file file-G617zgW5Nd7sqyE7KZfbgk, or organization [org-id] does not have access to it.`
  • Older examples: `batch_6a95349246788190b2343ac3154f9068`, `batch_6a9275953f088190bb49624ddc4fc1d0`.

Could you apply the file-validation mitigation to our org as well? Thank you.

@siddhant Our org is also affected — requesting the batch file validation mitigation.

Org ID: [org-id]
Onset: 2026-08-28 ~05:54 UTC. Since then 975+ batches failed, ~3,900 jobs unprocessed.
Every batches.create returns:
“Cannot find file <file_id>, or organization [org-id] does not have access to it.”

Minimal repro (today, 2026-09-01 ~08:5x UTC):
uploaded a 1-line JSONL (purpose=batch) → files.retrieve returns status=processed and it
appears in the file list → batches.create → fails 29-61s later with the error above.

Recent failing batch IDs:
batch_6a96f89c0a808190bc501537425c2cc3 (file-XFToAuDXArhtsqJ5b1xpgj)
batch_6a96e17e799081909e6b22aa47cc3ea1 (file-YZWBe8d7XRpf17mmZnAp5f)
batch_6a96e17c4eb88190bab9dc35608ed292 (file-TZHGEErEmx1Rhp8f1PGf8y)
batch_6a96e17a4ad88190af4f35ad7dc901e3 (file-PsXBs8rLNM9af625GpzsXA)
batch_6a970f4b9e008190ad7fde75 (direct REST call)

Already ruled out on our side: direct REST calls to the official endpoint, a brand-new
project key (same error, same org ID), the Uploads API (multipart), delays of 0/30/90s
before create, and reusing a file that had existed for 118 minutes — all fail identically.

Business impact and compensation request:
This has been a 5-day outage for us. Our production pipeline has been fully halted since
2026-08-28, and we have had to fall back to synchronous (non-batch) calls to recover the
backlog — which costs roughly 2x the Batch API rate, on top of the engineering time spent
diagnosing an issue that turned out to be platform-side. We would like to request service
credits covering both the failed batch period and the additional cost of the fallback.

Could you apply the mitigation to our org, and advise on the credit request? Thanks.

Hi @siddhant , our org [org-id] appears to be skipped from comments #95. Can you please help fixing the issue? Thanks

Sample batch ids:

  • batch_6a97178c1a2881908ed28c00760b0e69
  • batch_6a971409f5d48190816d1d498e586c8f
  • batch_6a9710490d388190903d87ae3f2566c4

@siddhant Our request above was also missed. This issue needs to be handled seriously and not through a free for all over a public forum while we scrounge for such a large company to fix their production service.

@siddhant Same issue here, still failing as of 2026-09-01 16:00 UTC.

Org: [org-id]

Failed batch: batch_6a96f003552481909e2855d3f762e27e

Every POST /v1/batches fails validation with “Cannot find file …, or organization … does not have access to it”, while GET /v1/files/{id} returns that same file as processed, with the same API key, seconds later. 100% failure since Aug 30, 02:06 UTC.

Could you add our org to the targeted mitigation? Thanks.

@siddhant — same issue here. Every batch since Aug 28 (~01:46 UTC) fails validation with “Cannot find file …, or organization does not have access to it”, while the referenced file is confirmed processed and retrievable via GET /v1/files/{id} with the same key at the moment the batch fails. Zero successful batches in 4+ days across gpt-4.1, gpt-4.1-mini, and gpt-5-mini; sync completions and the Files API work fine.

Please apply the batch file-validation fix to our org: org [org-id], project proj_VVsv3yPSrVjDLpXaaZGq7nhK.

Live repro pair, left in place for inspection: batch batch_6a971d00e3ec8190a624f81db68b60f9 (failed ~18:50 UTC Sep 1) referencing file file-2VMRhADXjmm7o8cW3tEE4Q, which is still processed and retrievable right now. We ruled out storage quota (purged the org to <1 GB — no change), key rotation, file size, and timing.

@siddhant could you help our team with the patch fix?

Example Failed batch:

batch_6a97148e29488190894c191135aab526

Cannot find file file-BpJwNYFxoefRpFaXUJM2eM, or organization org-cAEtDD R5MlivDoBQaz7tMrV Z does not have access to it.

Still facing the same error…

@siddhant

Thanx in advance.

@siddhant Could you apply the patch fix for our team? Thanks in advance!

batch_6a970625ad74819091d72b9568035dfd

@siddhant

Could you please add our organization to the fix list? Still affected as of Sep 1 ~19:20 UTC (probed after your morning fixes went out).

Org: [org-id]

Same signature as this thread, every batch since Aug 19: file uploads processed, retrievable via Files API with the same key, then batch validation fails ~60s later with Cannot find file , or organization [org-id] does not have access to it. Latest failed example: batch_6a9723bf94c481908571e9d99dde5eaf (Sep 1 ~19:15 UTC). Support case 14051559 is open with full request IDs. Thank you!
