I’m trying to determine whether this is just my account or whether other heavy Codex users are seeing the same thing.
Around a month ago, I could use Codex throughout the week without worrying about exhausting my weekly allowance.
Yesterday I deliberately carried out what I considered to be a representative development session. It wasn’t the exact same work as a month ago, but it was the same general type and scale of software engineering I normally use Codex for (backend, frontend, database changes, testing and validation across two projects).
Within approximately 3–4 hours I had:
- Exhausted 100% of my weekly GPT-5.3 Codex Spark allowance.
- Consumed approximately $80 of additional paid Codex usage.
- Finished the session with approximately 145 million tokens shown in my Codex usage page.
By the time I switched to GPT-5.3 Spark, I had already exhausted my weekly allowance on the higher Codex models and my allowance was not due to reset until 5 August. I therefore switched to Spark because it was the only Codex model I had remaining and it also provided a useful controlled comparison using the lowest-cost model available to me.
Unfortunately, it exhibited exactly the same behaviour, exhausting an entire week’s Spark allowance in approximately 3–4 hours.
Looking back through my historical Codex usage, around a month ago I was typically seeing around 150 million tokens of activity per day, yet my weekly Codex allowance generally lasted for most or all of the week.
That is the part I simply can’t reconcile.
At the current rate, Codex has unfortunately become commercially unusable for me. If this rate of consumption continued, I estimate it could cost somewhere in the region of $500–$1,000 per day to continue working this way, which obviously isn’t sustainable.
One other thing that may or may not be relevant.
Within the last couple of weeks my account was flagged for a cybersecurity/identity verification check and I was asked to upload my passport, which I completed successfully. This is the only significant account event I can think of that occurred around the same time I first noticed this dramatic change in allowance consumption.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Specifically:
- Has your weekly Codex allowance suddenly started disappearing much faster than it used to?
- Has anyone seen a significant change in allowance consumption over the last few weeks?
- Has anyone else experienced this after an account security or identity verification?
- If you raised it with OpenAI, did you receive an explanation?

I’ve already followed the guidance provided by OpenAI Support.
Over the past week I’ve contacted both OpenAI Support and OpenAI Sales and requested that my account be investigated.
At the time of writing I haven’t yet received a technical response, so I wanted to ask the community whether anyone else has experienced something similar while that investigation is pending.
If anyone from OpenAI is reading this, I’d be very grateful if my case could be escalated to the appropriate technical team, as I’m currently unable to continue using Codex commercially until I understand why my usage has changed so dramatically
