Android Chrome Notifications Feedback to Developers from a Developer

I want to influence how ChatGPT will help it’s users to get notifications working on Android Chrome and bring attention to testing and improving this feature. What ChatGPT Should Recommend is:

• Check Android notification permissions and Do Not Disturb (DND) exemptions, especially if you routinely use DND to block spam calls.

• In Chrome, go to Settings → Site settings → Notifications and check whether chatgpt[.]com appears in the allowed or blocked lists.

• If chatgpt[.]com appears in neither the allowed nor blocked notification lists and Chrome provides no way to request permission again, delete the stored browser/site data for chatgpt[.]com, then sign back into ChatGPT.

• Ask ChatGPT to schedule a notification test so that ChatGPT/Chrome has an opportunity to request notification permission. Accept the notification request when it appears.

Dev_Note — On Android, ChatGPT’s notification setup should not identify the destination as “Desktop.” Change this wording to “This Android device” or, preferably, the platform-neutral “This device.”

• Perform two notification tests: first with ChatGPT open in Chrome, then a second test with Chrome closed. The closed-Chrome test verifies that an actual Android system notification reaches the status bar/notification shade.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Clearer wording for Android Chrome and a way to test notifications would help users understand the setup and check that notifications are working.

We will share both suggestions with the team. In the meantime, you can find the current instructions in the notification setup guide. We cannot promise whether or when these changes might be added.
