Am I the only one who thinks OpenAI o1 pro mode, is useless?

Hello,
This is not a rant post, if it was, I would put a disclaimer at the beginning. This is a genuine question that I have been meaning to ask here for a while.

I pay 200/month to be at the forefront of AI power and the only things that you tangibly get access to with Pro tier, that plus tier doesn’t have, is:

  • Access to a research preview of Operator (Don’t get me started with Operator because it will turn into a rant post)
  • Access to research preview of Codex agent
  • Access to OpenAI o1 pro mode, which uses more compute for the best answers to the hardest questions

I literally never use o1 pro mode because in my opinion, I either dont understand its best practice applications, or it truly is useless. There hasnt been a single response that o1 pro mode has given to me that was even close to the quaility of response from o3 or GPT4o. The only reason I will ever use the o1 pro mode is because I really like the UI and the bar that says its thinking (I think this is cool). I think this is probably due to its inability to seach the web and stay uptodate on things past its training date, but unless im really missing the true power of this model and not seeing its true/best applications, why in the world would anyone use this?

This is a genuine question and I look forward to someone educating me or proving me wrong because I would love to leverage o1 pro mode, but I have been using ChatGPT for a long time and not once has o1 given me anything close to an impressive response.

Im thinking about trying to chain the models together via API’s (like have GPT4 provide the relevant context and have o1 make logical deductions and synthesis) but in that case, why am i even paying 200/month for pro-tier ChatGPT.

Thanks in advance.

Nick
