I am a user who maintains long-term conversations across multiple chats.
Currently, the ChatGPT memory management screen includes a field labeled “Ask a Question or Update.” However, it is unclear whether this is intended to update the chat summary or simply ask the AI a question. In my own testing, none of the memory summary items appeared to change after using this feature.
I would appreciate the ability to keep AI-generated summaries as the default while also allowing users to edit those summaries manually when needed. This would let users maintain summaries that better reflect the context they consider important.
In the future, it would also be very helpful if users could choose which conversations are allowed to access each summary, instead of making every summary equally available.
This feature would benefit anyone managing long-term projects across multiple conversations. User-edited summaries would provide more accurate context than relying only on automatically generated summaries.
I hope this feature can make long-term conversations easier to manage for many users.
