In ChatGPT Classic for macOS, Option+Space works very well as a launcher-style Quick Chat experience. I can press Option+Space to show Quick Chat, use it, and then dismiss it so that there is no persistent ChatGPT UI on my desktop.

In the **new ChatGPT** Mac app, Quick Chat is tied to the Pets overlay. Even with the Pet set to Mini, the Chat and Voice buttons remain persistently visible on the desktop.

I would like an option to completely disable the persistent overlay/buttons while keeping the Option+Space Quick Chat shortcut.

Ideally:

- Option+Space opens Quick Chat.

- Option+Space again, Escape, or clicking away hides Quick Chat completely.

- No Chat or Voice buttons remain visible when Quick Chat is closed.

- The Pets/overlay UI can be disabled independently from Quick Chat.

This would preserve the excellent lightweight launcher behavior of ChatGPT Classic.

kind of ridiculous that on mac, pressing the shortcut twice doesn’t hide the chat (still keeps two buttons even when pet is disabled).

On windows it works as expected, press shortcut once chat pops up, press it again everything dismissed.

This is one of the main reasons why I haven’t switched to the new ChatGPT app and still use ChatGPT Classic on macOS. I absolutely love the old behavior, where the mini chat appears when needed and completely disappears when dismissed. I don’t want any persistent icons or floating elements cluttering my screen.

Now that ChatGPT Classic is being discontinued on January 30th, I’m honestly not sure what to do. I really wish the new app would offer the same clean, unobtrusive mini chat experience as the old one.
