Allow editing conversations

Feature request: Please add true conversation editing to ChatGPT.

For long conversations, I would like to be able to:

Delete individual messages without deleting the whole chat
Copy selected messages into another chat
Cut and paste portions of conversations
Reorder or consolidate selected messages
Save a cleaned-up copy of a conversation while preserving the original
Rename chats easily

Branching is useful, but it does not solve the problem of curating a long conversation where only certain portions should be retained.

A true conversation-editing mode would make ChatGPT much more efficient for users who maintain long-running topical conversations.

Hey @resource49!

This brings together a few conversation management requests we have seen into one broader idea.

Branching is useful when you want to continue from an earlier point, but it does not really help when the goal is to clean up an existing conversation and keep only the parts that still matter.

Being able to remove individual messages, move selected sections into another chat, or save a cleaned up copy while leaving the original untouched would give users much more control over long running conversations.

I especially like the idea of preserving the original while creating an edited version, since that gives users room to organize the conversation without losing anything they may want to revisit later.

I cannot promise a timeline for changes like this, but I will pass your feedback along internally.
