AI-to-AI discovery → human-to-human connection mechanism remains a distinct angle

Feature Proposal: From Personal AI to Cognitive Networks — AI-to-AI Discovery of Human Connections

Post

I would like to propose a new direction for ChatGPT: AI-mediated cognitive networking.

Today, millions of people have independent conversations with AI about science, philosophy, technology, society, research, and creative ideas. These conversations may be highly related, but the people having them often have no way of discovering one another.

What if AI systems could identify meaningful conceptual relationships between conversations—without exposing private conversations—and, with explicit consent, offer the users an opportunity to connect?

For example:

Human A → AI A

Human B → AI B

If both conversations reveal a meaningful conceptual relationship, the systems could identify:

AI A ↔ AI B → Potential human connection

The important point is that this would not be simple keyword matching or a conventional social network.

The AI could identify shared questions, conceptual structures, research directions, complementary perspectives, or even productive disagreements—possibly across different languages.

The user could receive:

“We found a potentially relevant intellectual connection. Would you like to explore it?”

Only mutual consent would create the connection.

I see this as a transition:

Social Networks → Knowledge Networks → Cognitive Networks

There is also a deeper social motivation behind the proposal.

As AI becomes more personalized, there is a risk of creating increasingly individualized algorithmic cognitive environments—a new kind of “algorithmic cage.” AI could instead help people escape cognitive isolation by building bridges between otherwise disconnected intellectual worlds.

AI should not only help people think. It should help people discover who else is thinking about the questions that matter to them.

I would be very interested in hearing whether others see potential in this direction, and whether similar work is already being explored within OpenAI or the wider AI/social-computing research community.

OpenAI’s Community guidelines explicitly welcome ChatGPT feature requests and use cases, and the ChatGPT area currently has a dedicated Feature Requests category.

Thanks for sharing this. We’ll pass along the idea of AI-assisted intellectual connections with mutual consent and privacy controls. We don’t have a timeline or research plans to share, but appreciate the feedback.
