I just remembered this one, Class of '09 too that was really good.
They had to have whipped this series up after ChatGPT was released, because it directly explored how AI would integrate into our daily lives, and the consequences of that in a way that’s very familiar to ChatGPT.
Thanks for opening the floodgates on all the AI stories I’m remembering I’ve watched
I “cancelled” it around episode 4 right when it was getting bad. LOL.
Star Trek TNG continues to surprise upon rewatch, with what imagined tech has become reality in under 35 years. Which understands the nuance of human emotion and language more, ChatGPT or Mr Data? (ChatGPT doesn’t have to pause to look up a word internally and give its definition before proceeding…)
I can recommend everything but the last ~10 minutes of “ex machina” a movie from 2014, it follows a guy who is invited to a remote location by a CEO to administer a Turing test to an AI robot.
Interesting thread. A quick aside: if anyone here is interested in dialogues with the arts and entertainment industry, please consider taking a look at the Science & Entertainment Exchange.
The Exchange is a program of the National Academy of Sciences that “connects entertainment industry professionals with top scientists and engineers to create a synergy between accurate science and engaging storylines in both film and TV programming. From a quick fact check to a special briefing, The Exchange provides quick and easy access to experts from all the scientific disciplines. The goal of The Exchange is to use the vehicle of popular entertainment media to deliver sometimes subtle, but nevertheless powerful, messages about science.”
One fault I’m seeing is lack of showing AI in other areas like journalism, politics, medicine, etc. However, the format would work well for a Class of '09 that experiences the changes from AI in media landscape in season 2, and politicians in season 3, etc. I see why they focused on FBI, and the tri-split format is working surprisingly well, but I’d like to see more!
So I had to investigate this. This guy has either unlocked a power that nobody has come close to achieving, or is wearing his pants on top of his head. I’m leaning hard a certain way.
The biggest clue to wearing pants as a hat is the typical short snippets of non-coherent 3-5 second video slides.
I found he is using this:
Not going to lie. These guys are making some really cool stuff. I have been seeing it in HuggingSpace from other people but this is really nice and the interface is great.
It’s pretty obvious what this guy did here:
Used ChatGPT/Dall-E to create some epic photo scenes
Used Runaway ML to animate them
Used ElevenLabs for the voiceovers
I think this is very cool, and I’m seeing a lot of it pop up on HuggingSpace. Definitely not even CLOSE to a coherent movie. But, who knows, maybe this random unknown guy has a secret underground bunker with futuristic AI technology & secret formula
I tried it out a little myself:
Anyways.
Red Dwarf. A cult classic.
I have posted this clip here before and I think it’s becoming more fitting than ever: when everyone and their grandma is trying to install AI into everything and everything.
There are so many instances of AI, such as a prison ship equipped with guilt-reading AI that can sentence people to jail. A highly-intelligent AI taking over the ship and determining that the crew is insufficient and will lose control. There’s a lot of interesting, hilarious scenes.
Here’s a scene where they have a toaster with a built-in LLM (for no reason). All it wants to talk about is toasted goods which makes it overly annoying. It’s so annoying that it was “accidentally” destroyed. It was re-built by the robotic crewmember to practice improving an AI by reducing it’s life-span to make the ship’s AI brilliant again.
Lol it’s nice to see the LLM toaster making a comeback
It looks like runway is moving forward, both the clouds and ground in the second clip looks quite realistic, but there’s something odd about the intersection between them.
Anyways, here’s something I found while looking for stuff on chatGPT:
