There has been a lot of discussion about using AI in education, both pros and cons. Obviously, I think more studies need to be done. But first and foremost, I think teachers and professors need to be educated and get hands-on expertise with AI, so they can teach students how to use AI as a tool for complex tasks in specific subjects, without letting AI simply take over the task and remove the student’s own thinking and learning from the process.

I think it was positive news and followed the spirit of science - which means testing stuff and finding a reproducable solution for others. Before every professor does those kinds of experiments it needs some computer science professors who take their time and then test it carefully.
I mean nobody knows the consequences and those kids are not a test case. They are humans!
I understand your concern, but I think every study has unknown consequences to some extent. That is also why proper research has ethical protocols, laws, review processes and careful steps before children can be included as participants.
So I agree that children should never be treated carelessly as “test cases,” but I also think carefully designed research is exactly how we learn what works, what does not and what risks need to be taken seriously.
From what I read, the professor wanted to determine whether using AI could benefit students and designed the exam within the constraints of a university examination. He approached the experiment with his “eyes wide open” and learned from the experience.
I would be interested to see how the feedback is used and applied, and whether the results are ultimately published.

In order for students to become employable, it’s not so much about what information students learn. It’s more about:
If they learned how to think critically
If they learned how to problem solve
If they learned how to communicate effectively
Years ago, social media destroyed students ability to communicate effectively. So, the question now becomes: Can AI help students become employable? Afterall, is that not what education is all about?
I used to conduct many interviews for software developer positions, and those qualities were at the top of my list. Their absence was often the primary reason I would not recommend a candidate.
Many of the technical details of programming can be taught. However, without critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills, a person is less likely to contribute meaningfully and more likely to consume significant team resources.
