I keep reading there was a bug last week that caused accounts to be deactivated and yet appeals are being denied without explanation. Has anyone been successful in restoring their account or at least getting their data back?
@OpenAI_Support can you help?
Thanks for flagging this @rvarella
There was a known issue that resulted in some accounts being incorrectly deactivated, and that issue has since been resolved.
If your account was deactivated during that timeframe and has not yet been restored, could you please create a support ticket if you haven't already done so? We'll need the email address associated with the account to investigate further, so it's best to share those details directly with Support ticket.
Once you've created a ticket, feel free to share the case number here and I'll take a closer look and investigate further

@OpenAI_Support I have already done that but got the standard open a appeal response. Ticket number is 09836153.
I got the ban email on Jun 5th which I believe it’s the same date other people got it.
I have already submitted the appeal and got an automated rejection.
I’m pretty frustrated as I have years of work there. I should at least to be able to retrieve my data.
Thank you in advance.
Thanks for sharing the ticket number.
I reviewed the support case you referenced. Based on the information available, the best next step would be to submit a reappeal if you believe the account was deactivated in error and that you did not violate OpenAI's Terms or Usage Policies.
A reappeal will allow the relevant team to take another look at the account and the circumstances surrounding the deactivation.
That said, I'm not able to provide a timeline for how long the review may take or what conclusion the team may ultimately reach.

But how do I do that? It says I can’t. Please help - I’m desperate to at least get my data back. I don’t have thousands of followers to make noise as other people have done. I just want to be able to get back to work. I have not violated any terms of use. I have never been involved in what the email clams I have. I see so many other people complaining of the same. How can I prove that I have not done something that I don’t even understand what I am being accused of?
@OpenAI_Support how do I get my data back so I can move it somewhere else where I don’t have to beg for help?
I understand your concerns and have taken a look at the available records for your account.
At this point, I can confirm that the account has been reviewed by the appropriate team and the outcome of that review remains unchanged. As a result, we're unable to restore the account or provide any additional information regarding the enforcement decision.
If your main concern is obtaining a copy of your data, you can submit a request through OpenAI's Privacy Portal: Privacy Portal
As there isn't anything further we can do regarding the account through this channel, I'll be closing this thread. Thank you for your understanding.
