Accessibility: Full-row background colours for projects and sessions

The existing project colour feature only changes the colour of the small project icon. This is difficult to notice—particularly for users with colour-vision deficiencies—and does not make sessions within a long sidebar meaningfully easier to identify.

Please add an option in the ChatGPT desktop app to apply a subtle pastel background colour to the entire project row and, optionally, its associated session rows.

Ideally:

  • The selected colour would fill the full width/height of the project row.

  • Sessions within that project could inherit a lighter tint of the same colour.

  • Colours would remain clearly visible in both light and dark themes.

  • The existing icon-only colouring could remain available for users who prefer it.

  • Text contrast would be adjusted automatically for accessibility.

In the above example, the pink project icon beside “Template.Api” is too small and subtle for me to identify (4k screen + colour-vision defficient). A tinted row background would create a much stronger visual grouping as the number of projects and sessions grows.

This is distinct from the previously implemented project-colour request: that implementation colours only the icon, not the project or session background.

Hey @leroy1! I can see how the current icon-only color option could be too subtle, especially on a large display.

ChatGPT already has appearance and contrast controls you can review here: Updating your visual experience on ChatGPT

Full-row project colors, lighter session tints, and automatic contrast would go further, so we’ll pass that feedback along.

We don’t have a timeline to share, but thanks for explaining the accessibility need so clearly.
