I’ve noticed that when I ask ChatGPT a question and get an answer, I often have follow-up doubts while reading. But at the end of the response, ChatGPT usually brings up new related topics or asks if I want to explore more. This sometimes distracts me from my original thought or question, and I have to scroll back up to reread the answer to reconnect the dots.
It would be better if the conversation flow stayed focused on the user’s question and allowed them to lead the direction more naturally, rather than shifting focus toward new branches right away. This would help make the learning process more seamless and less mentally disruptive.
It seems like they’re pushing this hard. This option appeared in the customization settings and I disabled it but it didn’t change ANYTHING. I enabled it again, tested it, disabled it again and ZERO difference.
And it goes further: I had a custom instruction for it not to do this before this option appeared and it followed it, now it’s completely ignoring it. And if I ask it to stop in the chat session itself, it responds positively but in the next response it comes back with this again.
I totally agree with this. I experience exactly the same. When Chat GPT response has a follow up question like “would you like me to” which totally distracts my trail of thought and I end up forgetting my own follow up question for Chat GPT. I understand that sometimes a follow up question from Chat GPT can be helpful, but most of the time I would like to keep my thoughts patterns instead of a new quest being suggested which somehow overrides my thought question. Maybe there’s a link to human brains where you can distract a question with a question.
