Currently the only way to find previous chats is to scroll through the entire list. Many have suggested various scheme of organizing chats which would be helpful but the simplest thing you could do would be to add a flag or star for each chat users can click on and then filter chats so that only flagged chats show up in the list. This would be a huge improvement over the current situation.
