3D Model Creation, Visualization, and Downloading

Hi, ChatGPT is able to create 3D models based on its research. It is very successful in this area. We progress step-by-step together. Sometimes, it says it does not have permission to create interim visuals and stops generating images. It mentions that it can provide the FBX file it created, and tries options like email, WeTransfer, or Google Drive. However, in the end, it says it does not have permission to send files. After hours of work, the file remains inaccessible. Is there a way to solve this, or is it truly restricted as it claims?”

I’ve been working very diligently with GPT4 on developing a 3D model of parts to 3D print and keep running into the same problem. I hope someone in OpenAI is paying attention to the limitations of the system and working on a solution because it seems like the AI is ready for it but the system’s structure doesn’t allow for more extended workflow needs.

The following is a feature recommendation for creators like us that have more ambitious projects that require longer sessions and more persistently retained data for successful development and exporting of the final product. The current state of the system makes longer workflow projects very difficult.

:megaphone: Feature Request: Persistent Project Workflow Mode

Summary:
Requesting the introduction of a Persistent Project Workflow Mode in ChatGPT to support long-duration, multi-step creative and technical projects (e.g., STL modeling, asset development, game design). This mode would enable reliable background task tracking, proactive progress updates, and robust file export workflows for users working on complex deliverables.

The Problem:
Current ChatGPT sessions are reactive and ephemeral:

  • Users must manually prompt for progress updates.
  • File exports (e.g., STL files) are vulnerable to sandbox resets and limited file I/O.
  • No autonomous background progress tracking or notification system exists.
  • Complex projects require constant user babysitting to avoid losing context.

This creates friction and inefficiency for anyone managing large, iterative creative workflows.

Proposed Solution:

  • Enable Persistent Project Workflow Mode for opted-in sessions.
  • Provide proactive heartbeat pings (e.g., every 15 minutes) without manual prompting.
  • Ensure robust file export mechanisms, including:
    • Binary file outputs.
    • ASCII chunked exports with auto-merge instructions.
  • Support Save & Resume checkpoints for reliable progress continuity.
  • Offer a user-controlled task queue interface for monitoring project status.

Benefits:

  • Improves productivity and reliability for professional users.
  • Enhances ChatGPT’s capability as a creative and technical assistant.
  • Reduces frustration with data loss, interrupted exports, and constant manual check-ins.
  • Makes ChatGPT viable for serious, multi-hour, multi-day project workflows.

Who This Helps:

  • 3D modelers & STL designers.
  • Game asset developers.
  • Animators, CAD users, creative technologists.
  • Power users managing iterative, multi-file project pipelines.

Use Case Example:
Managing a detailed, multi-part STL modeling project for a 3D printed articulated figure (MissionRocker’s 2B). Requires reliable file exports, consistent progress visibility, and task persistence across sessions.
